Starting in 2015, Apple introduced USB-C by outfitting the 12-inch MacBook with a Power Delivery USB-C port. Up to now, all iPhone, iPad, and MacBook support PD fast charge protocol.
Apple also introduced USB-C PD chargers with different power, such as the Apple 61W USB-C Charger which is made for the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
However, as its 61W charger is too bulky, some of the users are seeking for a more portable alternative.
In this post, we are going to make comparisons between the Apple 61W USB-C Charger and the latest SHARGE PD 65W Dual USB C 3-Port GaN Tech Wall Charger.
Apple vs SHARGE
Both Apple 61W USB-C charger and SHARGE PD 65W Dual USB C 3-Port GaN Tech Wall Charger enable laptop charging. But they still differ greatly in respect of their power output, the number of the charging ports, and size.
Large Size vs Mini Size
Frankly, at first glance of these two chargers, you can tell that the SHARGE 65W charger is obviously smaller than Apple’s.
Apple 61W measures 3.1 x 1.1 x 3.1 inches (80 x 29 x 80 mm). Well, that’s kind of large for most people.
In comparison, SHARGE 65W with more charging ports measures only 2.6 x 1.1 x 1.6 inches (66 x 29 x 41 mm), which is half the size of Apple 61W.
The SHARGE 65W charger is the result of the latest GaN technology. GaN chargers are more compact and energy-efficient.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) offers better power efficiency in a smaller area than traditional silicon parts. GaN chargers are physically smaller as they don’t require as many components as silicon chargers.
Single-Port Output vs Multiport Output
If you just factor the size, there’s no doubt that SHARGE 65W is the winner. If you want an alternative to your MacBook’s original charger, you still need to consider the power output.
Apple 61W features powerful charging performance which is able to charge MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. It can even fast charge most USB-C devices on the market.
However, SHARGE 65W is in a smaller size with more charging ports but offers higher power output than Apple 61W. It comes with two 65W USB-C ports and a 30W USB-A port.
SHARGE’s two USB-C ports both can output up to 65W of power. Also, they support multiple fast-charging protocols like Qualcomm Quick Charge, Power Delivery, and Apple 2.4A. These two ports can handle 15” MacBook Pro without any problem.
Though 65W is not that fast, it’s enough to charge 15” MacBook Pro.
SHARGE’s USB-A port outputs up to 30W. It supports multiple fast-charging protocols, such as QC3.0, Apple 2.4A, XIAOMI Charge Turbo, and HUAWEI SuperCharge. That means it can fast charge most smartphones on the market.
With three output ports, it can fast charge three devices at the same time.
If a multiport charger is at full load, it will automatically regulate the power output to ensure all devices can be charged as fast as possible. For example, when the SHARGE’s USB-C port works alone, it will output the entire 65W; when its two USB-C ports work simultaneously, they will output at 45W and 18W separately.
Which should you choose?
Apple 61W USB-C charger and SHARGE PD 65W Dual USB C 3-Port GaN Tech Wall Charger both are excellent chargers. It’s all up to your charging need.
If you think the original charger of the MacBook is fine, you can just stick to it.
If you want a more compact alternative, then we suggest you choose the SHARGE 65W.
It’s because the SHARGE 65W features the same charging performance of the original charger of the MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, while it still maintains a small size that makes it easy to take on the go. Additionally, it has three output ports so that you don’t need to carry several chargers during business trips.
At last, no matter which charger you choose, it’s best to clearly know the input power of your device and whether your device supports Power Delivery in advance. That way, you can make sure the charger meets your charging needs.

Perfect travel charger
Bought as a travel charger for my MacBook Air and my iPhone, nice not having to carry two chargers. This charger works great! Have had both devices on it and charges my iPhone from about 20% to full in about 45 minutes and the MacBook from about 10% to full in about an hour. Highly recommend!

It is a game changer
I travel for work and used to carry four charging bricks. This has replaced the bricks and has made me lazy about charging my devices. I can charge devices lightning fast, no longer strategically charging my devices all night. If you have multiple devices that need power this is a game changer.
